Sichuan Province, known as the "Land of Abundance" and has three places listed as the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, namely the Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area, the Huanglong Scenic Area, and Emei Mountain including the Leshan Giant Buddha. Visitors to this province can experience a wide variety of beautiful landscapes including plateaus, mountains, ravines, basins, hills, plains, rivers, lakes, hot springs, waterfalls and limestone caves. Most of the rivers in Sichuan belong to the Yangtze River system.
Sichuan is gifted with lush mountains and exquisite waters, and abounds in historical and cultural resources. Its main scenic spots and historical sites include Emei Mountain, Qingcheng Mountain, and Long Valley, the Dujiangyan Irrigation System, Leshan Giant Buddha, and Jiuzhaigou (Nine-Village Valley). The Wolong Nature Reserve in Sichuan is home to the Chengdu Giant Panda Research Base, one of the most important centers in the world for the captive conservation of the Giant Panda.
As one of the largest provinces, Sichuan has more than 15 minority groups living with the Han people. Among these are the Yi, Hui, Tibetan and Miao peoples. Each of these minorities has its own charm, ethnic style and folk custom. Some of the ethical festivals like Leshan Great Buddha International Tourist Festival, Southland Ice and Snow Festival, Liangshan Yi Minority Torch Festival and Zigong Lantern Festival have become Sichuan's unique tourist resources.

Chengdu, located in southwest People's Republic of China, is the capital of Sichuan province and a sub-provincial city. Chengdu is also one of the most important economic centers and transportation and communication hubs in Southwestern China. According to the 2007 Public Appraisal for Best Chinese Cities for Investment, Chengdu was chosen as one of the top ten cities to invest in, out of a total of 280 urban centers.
More than four thousand years ago, the prehistorical Bronze Age culture of Jinsha established itself in this region. The fertile Chengdu Plain, on which Chengdu is located, is called Tianfuzhi guo in Chinese, which literally means "the country of heaven", or more often seen translated as "the Land of Abundance". It was recently named China's 4th-most livable city by China Daily.

Sanxingdui is the name of an archaeological site in China, now believed to be the site of an ancient Chinese city. The previously unknown Bronze Age culture was re-discovered in 1987 when archaeologists excavated remarkable artifacts, that radiocarbon dating dated as being from the 12th-11th centuries BCE. Leaving behind nothing in the historical record, not even in myth, the unknown culture that produced these artifacts is now known as the Sanxingdui Culture. A museum housing the artifacts is located near the city of Guanghan.

Mount Qingcheng and the Dujiang Irrigation System, a World Cultural Heritage Site, are two separate sites located in the Sichuan province of southwest China. Mount Qingcheng is the intellectual and spiritual centre of Taoism, while the Dujiangyan Irrigation System is an ancient water management system that has survived up to the present day.
As early as the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BCE), Mount Qingcheng was recognized as one of the eighteen sacred mountains and rivers used for sacrificial purposes. The eleven Qingcheng Taoist temples can be compared to the Ancient Building Complex in the Wudang Mountains, but the former have a simpler style using the traditional architecture of western Sichuan and are considerably older.

The origins of the Dujiangyan Irrigation System date back to 256 BC, when the provincial governor Li Bing set up an irrigation scheme to the counter the devastating flooding caused by the Min River. His system makes subtle use of the local topography. It splits the Min into an inner flow for irrigation and an outer channel for flood control. The original system has been preserved, but modern building materials and technology have been utilized to enable this ancient system to conform with the requirements of the present day. |

The Leshan Giant Buddha was built during the Tang Dynasty (618-907). It is carved out of a cliff face that lies at the confluence of the Minjiang, Dadu and Qingyi rivers in the southern part of Sichuan province in China, near the city of Leshan. The stone sculpture faces Mount Emei, with the rivers flowing below his feet.
The Mount Emei Scenic Area, including Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. It was undamaged by the 2008 Sichuan earthquake. |

Emeishan is a mountain in Sichuan province of Western China. It is one of the Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains of China. The patron bodhisattva of Emei is Samantabhadra, known in Chinese as Puxian, 16th and 17th century sources allude to the practice of martial arts in the monasteries of Mount Emei, made the earliest extant reference to the Shaolin Monastery as Chinese boxing's place of origin.
A large surrounding area of countryside is geologically known as the Permian Emeishan Large Igneous Province, a large igneous province generated by the Emeishan Traps volcanic eruptions during the Permian Period.

The Wolong Panda Reserve is located to the east of Chengdu, it would take about 3 hrs. driving to reach there. Wolong National Nautre Reserve was set up in the year of 1958. The objective was to control the alarming rate in which this beautiful animal was slowly disappearing from the country. In 1980, it was made a part of the Man and Biosphere Reserve Network of UNESCO.
Being as a World Natural Heritage site, the Sichuan Giant Panda Habitat spans Wolong area, Mt.Siguniang and Jiajin Range, as well as 12 conunties, 8 nature reservs and 9 nine senic resorts in Chengdu, Aba, Ya'an and Ganzi, with a total area of 9,245 square kilometers.
Today, it has about 150 pandas in the reserve. 67 of them are captive pandas. These pandas are managed and taken care of by the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda. Each year, tourists and visitors from different countries come to Wolong Panda Reserve and enjoy seeing the pandas in their natural habitat. What's more, you can take pictures of your family and friends with an infant panda, adopt a panda or can even name one of them. |

Jiuzhaiguo, a World Natural Heritage Site, named by the UN as one of the greatest natural legacies in the world. Jiuzhaigou is located in the Nanping county of Aba province which lies 450 kilomiles away from Chengdu. With the total area of over 72,000 hectares, it is named as JiuZhaigou because there were 9 “Zang” (a Chinese clan) stockaded villages. The tourist spot is divided into 5 scenic areas including Baojing Rock, Shuzheng, Rizi, Jian Rock, Chang Sea and ZhaYu. Most of the spots are found within the 3 main Y-shaped gaps. 14. Cultural Evening – Hot Pot Dinner and Sichuan Opera
Sichuan hot pot is very famous numb and spicy, to which a special spice known as Sichuan Pepper is added. It creates a sensation on the tongue that is both spicy and burns and numbs slightly, almost like carbonated beverages. It was usual to use a variety of different meats as well as sliced mutton fillet.

Bian Lian is an ancient Chinese dramatic art that is part of the more general Sichuan opera. Performers wear brightly colored costumes and move to quick, dramatic music. Day 1: Drive from Chengdu to Dujiangyan-Maoxian-Songpan-Jiuzhaigou (430km) through Dujiangyan weirs, Wenchuan, Maoxin. After Lunch at local restaurant, go on to Jiuzhaigou, pass Diexihaizi (Earthquake lake)and Songpan old town. Dinner.
Jiuzhaigou is a national nature reserve. It has been known throughout the world as a Paradise in the World and Fairyland on the Earth for its crystal lakes and waterfalls, virgin forests, rare animals and birds. Overnight in Jiuzhaigou.
Day 2: Full Day Jiuzhaigou Sightseeing by green bus. Day 1: Leave Chengdu for Kangding in the morning, go through Erlang Mount Tunnel to Kangding, visit "Photography Heaven" - Xindu Bridge after lunch. Dinner. Overnight in Xinduqiao.
Day 2: After breakfast in Xindu Bridge, climb over the Mount Gaoersi, Mount Jianziwan, Mount Kazila, appreciate the landscape of Qing and Tibetan Plateau along the way. Arrive in Litang; worship Butala Temple

Day 3: After breakfast, leave Daocheng for Riwa by bus,to the key scenic spot-Yading Nature Preserve by sightseeing-bus, appreciate Tibetan temples and villages, landscape of Chitu River and valley, golden Gongga Langjiling Temple along the way; view the Sacred Mount after dinner in Shangri-la Hotel. Overnight in Yading.
Day 4: Full day visit to Chonggu Temple, Luorong Pastureland, Five Color Lake, enter into Nature Preserves by riding horse, appreciate the 3 Sacred Mounts: Xiannaiyi, Yangwanyong, Xianuoduoji and enjoy the landscape of plateau with 5,000 meters above the sea level，Back to Daocheng,,enjoy Rubuchaka Hot Spring at night. Day 7: Leave Rilong for Chengdu, pass Mt. Balangshan, have a photograph rest for grassland and the yaks. After lunch in Wolong, visit Wolong Panda Research and Protection Center and take photos with panda (Cost excluded). End of the trip.

21. Five Days for Songpan, Munigou Riding Horse Tour:
Day01: Depart from Chengdu in early morning, drive along with the Jiuzhai Valley route and pass through Dujian weir, Yinxiu, Wenchuan, Maoxian. The first sight in front of you would be the endless rural area of beautiful western Sichuan and country houses which surrounded by bamboos. Then, you will pass Dujian Weir - the great ancient irrigation system in Chinese history. Afterwards, go upward along with Min River which grandness and spectacular scene could be compared with Yellow River. Lunch and dinner.The following sight is the Aba area, where Tibetan (Zang) and Qiang nationalities lives. Aba is the only living area of Qiang nationality besides Kangba Tibetan (Zang) and Jiarong Tibetan (Zang) nationality. Aba is well known for its blockhouses and hanging bridges which could be seen on the way. After Wenchuan and Maoxian, you will pass Diexihaizi and then the ancient city – Songpan, which was the important commercial and martial site in the Tang dynasty. Besides its historical position, the attractions of Songpan are surely beautiful and natural. Guests can ride houses with local people and visit the nature of Xuebaoding and Munigou, leaving behind all the city noises while walking along the green Haizi and the marvelous forest. The total distance is 350 km and takes about 7 hours. Road condition is good. Overnight in in Songpan.
Day02-04: These days will be camp tour with horse riding from Songpan to Munigou. Munigou Scenic Spot is located in Songpan County with Zhaga Waterfall and Erdaohai. Wenchuan Earthquake: On May 12, 2008, the area was the site of the epicentre and one of the most severely hit areas of the great Sichuan, or Wenchuan, earthquake. In Chinese, the earthquake is named after the county, making its name resonate across the nation. In the county, 15,941 people were dead, 34,583 injured, and 7,474 still missing as of June 6, 2008.
Wenchuan was at the center of one of two areas where seismic intensity were the highest at XI liedu during this earthquake. Since the earthquake, the central government has increased fortification intensity for seismic design for this area from VII to VIII. |

Taoping Village, located in Aba Tibetan-Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, 170 kilometers west of Chengdu , is the best-preserved village exclusively inhabited by Qiang ethnic group. Built in 111 BC, this ancient village has survived 2,000 years of erosion and stands well today. Its maze-like manner and durable architecture have earned it the moniker "the ancient castle in the East."
The Qiang people built their homes from stone, earth and timber, judging all measurements by eye, rather than designing scientifically; yet all buildings have stood firm, straight and long. The Qiang houses usually have five stories. Livestock is kept on the first floor, and the living room, bedrooms and kitchen are on the second and the third. The fourth is used for storage and the fifth is a place of worship where white stones are arranged upon which sacrifices are offered.
Qiang people have a strong aesthetic sense, as can be seen from their daily dress and ornamentation. They sew their own garments and footwear and embroider them with various motifs. Women's wearing, from hats to shoes, is elaborately decorated with floral patterns, sometimes giving the impression that the scent of flowers emanates from the clothes. |
