Beijing optional tours: Hutong & Rickshaw
  Beijing Hutong
Hutong is the local dialect for street in Beijing. Taking a rickshaw along the hotongs can make you enjoy the old style Siheyuan the typical old houses with square courtyard some over 100 years.
During China’s dynastic period, emperors planned the city of Beijing and arranged the residential areas according to the social classes of the Zhou Dynasty(1027 - 256 BC). At the center was the Forbidden City, surrounded in concentric circles by the Inner City and Outer City. Citizens of higher social status were permitted to live closer to the center of the circles. Aristocrats lived to the east and west of the imperial palace. The large siheyuan of these high-ranking officials and wealthy merchants often featured beautifully carved and painted roof beams and pillars and carefully landscaped gardens. The hutongs they formed were orderly, lined by spacious homes and walled gardens. Farther from the palace, and to its north and south, were the commoners, merchants, artisans, and laborers. Their siheyuan were far smaller in scale and simpler in design and decoration, and the hutongs were narrower.
Nearly all siheyuan had their main buildings and gates facing south for better lighting; thus a majority of hutongs run from east to west. Between the main hutongs, many tiny lanes ran north and south for convenient passage.
Nanluoguxiang Hutong
Nanluoguxiang was built 700 year ago in the Yuan dynasty and is mainly a protected street of traditional courtyard homes called Siheyuan. The street is about 1000 meters long with 8 symmetrical lanes, or Hutong, on both the East and West sides. The lane is so neat that it looks like a centipede. This is where it got its second name, "Centipede Street."
The walls and tiles on here are a grayish tone, not the royal red of the Forbidden City just one street away. The court officers and literates used to live on this street. In the last few years, bars, cafés and boutique stores have flourished in the alley way, drawing tourists and Beijing residents in search of low key night life and a taste of old Beijing.
In 2008, the local government renovated the alley way, destroying temporary structures that some residents had built, cleaning up the facades of the buildings and repaving the alley with grey stones.
Compared to the fast and rhythmic lives of the Beijing people, Nanluoguxiang is a place where hurrying does not happen. Tourists can have a glimpse of unpaved enclosures from the past dynasties, listen to the chattering noise of people on the street, or maybe find some valuable crafts from the small stores. Modern and traditional, artistic and civilian, fast and slow, combined together to make it.To see more pictures, please hit here

It was here to held the Opening and Closing ceremonies. The stadium contained 100,000 spectators is 330 metres long by 220 metres wide, and is 69.2 metres tall. The 250,000 square metre (gross floor area) stadium is to be built with 36 km of unwrapped steel, with a combined weight of 45,000 tonnes. The stadium will cost up to 3.5 billion yuan (422,873,850 USD/ 325,395,593 EUR).
The stadium's appearance is one of synergy, with no distinction made between the facade and the superstructure. The structural elements mutually support each other and converge into a grid-like formation - almost like a bird's nest with its interwoven twigs. The spatial effect of the stadium is novel and radical, yet simple and of an almost archaic immediacy, thus creating a unique historical landmark for the Olympics of 2008.

Beijing optional tours: Sun Village "Sun village" Orphanage-" To achieve a child's dream with your love!" As a non-governmental charitable organization, SunVillage has been dedicated to providing foster care and education for the children of convicts for over ten years. SunVillage is committed to bring these minors together in a stable and warm family. This environment enables them to grow-up both happily and healthily, just as other children would. As the SunVillage children are neither orphans nor physically disabled, they are ineligible for government subsidies. At the same time they can receive unfavorable treatment in society due to their family background. On
their own, the children would be left without shelter: Some would work as shepherds, some would beg for money and food, and many would be abandoned and possibly abused by their relatives. Given this situation it may not be surprising that some children turn to crime, just as their parents may have done. Food is necessary to a growing child, a healthy environment is equally important!Sun village's children are expecting more attention from the people. During the visit of the SunVillage, we would arrange a series of exchange activities for both you and children.

Beijing optional tours: Fragrant Hills Park Chinese History MuseumBeijing optional tours:Fragrant Hills Park Fragrant Hills Park
The park was established in 1186, during the Jin Dynasty, and renovated by emperors of the Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties (1115-1911). In 1745, Emperor Qianlong ordered large-scale construction. At that time, 28 beautiful scenes with enclosing walls were set up and named Jingyi Park by the emperor. The Anglo-French Army and the Eight Power Allied Forces burned it to ashes in 1860 and 1900 respectively.
Most visitors can enjoy quiet, ancient scenes, myriad beautiful flowers in early spring, a cool holiday in the summer, red leaves in late fall, and splendid snow scenes in winter.?Visitors can take an 18-minute cable car ride to the top of Incense Burner Peak while leisurely enjoying the beautiful scenery below and get an excellent view of Beijing.

The Beijing bar scene is constantly spreading and expanding, but at the moment the majority of the action is still confined to two main areas. The good thing about this is that it is very easy to find everything and once you are in a neighborhood it is very easy to walk from place to place.
The first area in Beijing to develop a true bar scene was Sanlitun, named for a street near the embassy neighborhoods of Chaoyang District. A long time favorite with foreigners, there is a constant rotation of new bars featuring a wide range of themes in Sanlitun. Despite this rotation, there are consistently a lot of people having a great, sometimes rowdy, time.
The other major cluster of bars can be found around Shisha Sea. The Shisha Sea area experienced a surge of development in 2003 and hasn't stopped since. Now there are a good number of bars, all offering a similar atmosphere, on both sides of the lake. These tend to be low key affairs and nearly all of them offer seating on the water. This is a great place to have a quiet drink, enjoy the water, and relax.
There is a third area, also overlooking Shisha Sea, along the street Houhai Nanyan. This row of bars and restaurants tend to be a bit more upscale, specializing in fine food and fancy cocktails. This is certainly the place to go if you are trying to impress a date.
